Cambodia Gambling Dens

[ English ]

There is a captivating story to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall gambling is not allowed. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect location, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few controls requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; still, financial sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and although visas are apparently necessary to pass, there are means around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship casino, features 150 slot machine games and 60 table games. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of 150 slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machine games and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the normal tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel complex that highlights many amenities in addition to the gambling hall, which has ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 table games.
